Field Report 001 | Yamanashi Fishing Trip

We headed to Yamanashi in search of the char that inspired our "Iwana S/S Tee," released for SS26.

In fact, the char featured on the shirt was caught by Tanabe himself. The stream is a fascinating one, home to both Nikko (white-spotted) and Yamato char, with individuals showing a diverse range of patterns and colors even over a short stretch.

Among them, we were captivated by a beautiful char that seemed like a mix of both types, which drew us back to the stream once again.

After finishing work in Tokyo the day before, we set off with almost no sleep, arriving at the location just as the sky began to brighten.

With a mix of anticipation and drowsiness, we descended to the entry point. For this trip, I wore the SS26 Seersucker Urban Vent H/S Shirt. Despite the "Urban Vent" name, the highly breathable Dot Air seersucker fabric kept me comfortable even in the heat of the day. The cotton-polyester blend also offers a toughness that let me immerse myself in fishing without worrying about snagging on branches or scraping against rocks.




Early in the morning, the fish were less active due to the low water temperature. Driven by the incredible location and high hopes for the fish, we hurried up the stream. As the sun rose, the activity picked up, and we managed to catch a few. However, we were unable to encounter our target fish this time.



In the end, our party of three caught about nine fish. While it is a shame we couldn't meet our target, it was a great trip that reaffirmed the joy of casting a line while taking in a beautiful mountain stream.
